Immediate placement means placing an implant at the extraction visit. Immediate loading refers to attaching a restoration early; these are separate decisions. Receiving a temporary tooth does not mean bone healing or definitive treatment is complete.

What Is a Same-Day Implant?

A same-day implant is the placement of an implant in the same session as the tooth extraction, in the same area. With this method, patients can start treatment without going long periods without a tooth. In patients with suitable bone structure, a temporary tooth can also be fitted after the implant is placed.

This treatment method offers an important advantage, in particular, for patients who have lost a tooth in an aesthetic area. This way, the patient can be treated in a short time while the time spent without a tooth is minimized.

How Is a Same-Day Implant Done?

Same-day implant treatment is carried out in specific stages:

Detailed examination and planning. Before treatment, the patient’s jawbone structure and oral health are evaluated in detail. X-rays or three-dimensional tomography images are taken to plan the area where the implant will be placed.

Tooth extraction and implant placement. If a tooth extraction is needed, the implant can be placed in the jawbone immediately after the tooth is extracted. The procedure is performed under local anesthesia and is usually completed in a short time.

Temporary tooth application. In suitable cases, a temporary tooth can be fitted after the implant is placed. This way, the patient can continue daily life without going without a tooth aesthetically.

Can Same-Day Implants Be Applied to Every Patient?

Same-day implant treatment may not be suitable for every patient. For this treatment to be applied, certain conditions need to be met:

  • The jawbone must be dense enough to support the implant
  • Gum health must be adequate
  • There must be no infection in the area where the implant will be placed
  • The patient’s general health must be suitable

For this reason, whether same-day implant treatment is suitable can only be determined through a detailed dental examination.

What Are the Advantages of a Same-Day Implant?

Combining extraction and placement may avoid a separate surgical visit in selected cases. However, a temporary tooth is not possible in every case and healing continues. Delayed placement or loading may be suitable alternatives.

Is a Same-Day Implant Safe?

This approach still carries surgical risks, including infection, early failure, tissue recession and restorative complications. Placement or loading may be delayed if stability or bone conditions are unsuitable. Digital planning does not remove these risks.

This information does not replace an individual assessment. At your appointment, explain when symptoms began and share details of medicines and previous treatment.
