Orthodontic Treatment
What is Orthodontic Treatment?
Orthodontic treatment is a branch of dentistry aimed at correcting misalignment of teeth, improper bite (malocclusion), jaw disorders, and other dental irregularities. This treatment ensures the proper positioning of the teeth both aesthetically and functionally, improving oral health.
How is Orthodontic Treatment Done?
Orthodontic treatment can be applied using various methods depending on the patient’s needs. During the treatment process, orthodontic devices such as braces, wires, plates, or transparent aligners are used to move the teeth and jaw into the desired position. The steps generally include:
Examination and Planning:
In the initial examination, a detailed assessment of the teeth, jaw, and facial structure is performed. X-rays and measurements are taken to prepare a comprehensive treatment plan.
Braces or Aligner Application:
Depending on the treatment, metal or clear braces are applied to the teeth, or clear aligners are prepared. These devices gradually guide the teeth into the correct position.
Regular Check-ups:
Regular check-ups are conducted to adjust the devices and monitor the movement of the teeth. This process is an important factor in determining the length of the treatment.
Treatment Completion and Retention Phase:
Once the teeth have moved to the desired position, braces are removed or the final aligner treatment is completed. Retention devices are used afterward to maintain the new position of the teeth.
Orthodontic treatment typically lasts anywhere from several months to two years and is customized to each individual’s needs.
