Laminate Veneer (Porcelain Laminate) Crowns
Laminate Veneer (Porcelain Laminate) Crowns
If the size, shape, or surface structure of the teeth need to be corrected, procedures such as laminate veneers (porcelain laminates) or zirconium crowns are applied. These treatments significantly improve the aesthetic appearance of the teeth.
What is Laminate Veneer?
Laminate veneers are thin porcelain or composite coatings applied to the front surface of the teeth. They are known for being the closest material to natural tooth structure and are bonded to the tooth’s front surface to solve aesthetic problems. In this method, a large portion of the natural tooth is preserved, and only a minimal amount of abrasion is made on the front surface.
How is Laminate Veneer Applied?
Examination and Planning:
- The dentist examines the patient’s tooth structure and evaluates aesthetic expectations.
- The size of the teeth is taken, and an appropriate color and shape are determined for the patient.
Tooth Preparation:
- A very thin layer of abrasion is performed on the front surface of the tooth. Since this abrasion is minimal, most of the tooth is preserved.
Impression Taking:
- After abrasion, impressions of the teeth are taken and sent to the laboratory. Based on these measurements, custom laminate veneers are produced for the patient.
Temporary Veneer:
- While the permanent veneers are being prepared, a temporary veneer may be applied to ensure the patient’s comfort both aesthetically and functionally.
Placement of Laminate Veneers:
- Once the prepared veneers are checked for fit, they are bonded to the surface of the teeth using special adhesives.
Polishing and Final Touches:
- After the veneers are placed, the teeth are polished to give them a natural shine.
Advantages of Laminate Veneers:
- Natural Appearance: Laminate veneers offer a result that closely resembles natural teeth due to their light-transmitting properties and provide an aesthetically pleasing outcome.
- Minimal Abrasion: Only minimal abrasion is done, preserving a large part of the tooth.
- Long-Lasting: With proper care, laminate veneers can last for many years without issues.
- Stain Resistance: Porcelain material is resistant to stains, making it durable against external factors like tea, coffee, and smoking.
